The Lubumbashi Airport. The electricity was off when we arrived, so they had to hand carry our checked bags to us. We had to pay an "Airport Tax" when we arrived and again when we left. We don't know what the tax goes for, but we hope for a good cause.
In our hotel, we had a room with a view, as you can see through the security bars.
Street scenes in downtown Lubumbashi. Notice how the women carry their belongings on their heads, which is common in most countries in Africa. We could sense the poverty of the people there.
Me with Desire (Dez er ay') Ilunga, our interpreter, driver, and friend. He speaks five languages, including English, French Swhahili, and two other African languages. He is manager of Physical Facilities for the church in the the area.
We had an interesting time there but we were glad to be back "home" in Joburg.
good to see more photos. When we visit we'll have to compare the size of the potholes with those in Costa Rica--ouch.
