Today was the type of spring day that I particularly enjoy: The major blast of pollen from the first part of spring seems to have subsided a bit, the temperature peaked at 85 F, and we had a late afternoon shower to cool us back down.
During the warmest part of the afternoon, EV had her wading pool out between the house and garage. Her "swimming" in the wading pool consists mainly of splashing the water out into the surrounding plants, rocks, and walkway.
The wet rocks and plants seem to attract a variety of insects, this being one of the most colorful:
55mm, 1/500th of a second, f/11, ISO 200, iTTL fill flast camera left set to -2/3 EV.
You can also see it bigger at my SmugMug site--just click on the image. I'll plan to post big copies of the better shots over there on a regular basis and pretty soon, you can even order reasonably priced prints. :)
Part of what amazes me about this shot is that it was taken with the cheap little kit lens that came with the camera. Nikon doesn't even call it a macro focusing lens but it can focus amazingly close.
