More Cary Judd show shots:
18mm, 1/8th of a second, f/3.5, ISO 200, snooted speedlight manual.
50mm, 1/4th of a second, f/2.8, ISO 200. Panned, no flash.
18mm, 1/5th of a second, f/7.1, ISO 200, snooted flash manual.
Lessons learned: Having someone else hold the flash at an angle so that the spill falls outside of the frame is really helpful for at least two reasons: First, and obviously, you don't get the spill in the frame but second, it frees you up to compose so you don't have to worry about aiming the snoot with one hand and composing/changing camera settings/shooting with the other.
I also like the effect from getting really close and shooting wide. Amazingly, the venue didn't throw me out for nearly standing on stage and Cary didn't whack me with his swinging guitar neck.
Very nice! I had forgotten that Cary was going to be in your neck of the woods again.

i really like the artistic effect these have. i finally have 'learned' how to turn the power up/down on my speedlite - and combined with the bounce card - see the 'natural' effects that can be achieved with on camera flash.
