A couple of weeks ago, my new reflector kit arrived via UPS which is my favorite way to receive new camera gear. But, the UPS part is another story for another day.
The reflectors are a lot like those twisty car window shades that take a couple of tries to get them to collapse. The kit also comes with a nice diffusion panel which I put to work mid-day yesterday when DD suggested I have a few shots of the Black-eyed Susans in our front yard.
Typically, taking shots of anything outdoors in middle-of-the-day direct sunlight is a little messy because the light is so harsh and unflattering (e.g., how many snapshots of people have you seen where the eye sockets of the people are completely black?) The diffusion panel fixes that problem by diffusing the direct light.
So EV held the diffusion panel for me as long as her little arms could hold up the 51 inch disc and this is what we got:
Note the absence of harsh shadows despite the fact that this was shot at about 11:00 AM on a very sunny day.
If you ever do tabletop subjects I think you would be interested in these reflectors www.lightrightreflector.com.
